The wisdom
Agni is fire as a god: present in the hearth, the sacrificial fire and the sun. The very first hymn of the Rig Veda is addressed to him, and every hawan and wedding takes place around his flame.
Fire transforms what it touches; Agni is the messenger who carries offerings from the human world to the divine.
What the evidence says
Evidence: TraditionalThe value rests on lived tradition and reasoning, not on tests.Research doesn't test devotion to a deity. The Vedic hymns are studied as literature and history; their spiritual meaning is a matter of faith.
How we rate evidenceSignificance
What it means to the people who keep it. Faith-based meaning is described as belief, not as proven fact.
Agni is held to be the witness of vows, which is why couples circle the fire at a Hindu wedding. Offerings in a yajna are spoken into Agni with svaha.
