The wisdom
Lakshmi, also called Shri, is the goddess of abundance, beauty and good fortune, shown seated on a lotus. She is worshipped above all on Diwali.
Lakshmi is honoured as well-being in every sense: a clean home, generosity and contentment as much as wealth.
What the evidence says
Evidence: TraditionalThe value rests on lived tradition and reasoning, not on tests.Research doesn't test devotion to a deity. Studies of chanting and prayer in general report calmer mood (see Mantra chanting); claims of blessings or results are matters of faith. No practice here is a way to gain money.
How we rate evidenceSignificance
What it means to the people who keep it. Faith-based meaning is described as belief, not as proven fact.
Homes are cleaned and lamps lit so that Lakshmi will enter. Fridays, Sharad Purnima and Diwali are dedicated to her.
